Có thể đối với lớp gamer ngày nay cái tên Wolfenstein ngoài việc nghe na ná như Frankenstein ra thì nó chẳng để lại ấn tượng gì, nhưng nó lại là một trong những trò chơi xuất hiện từ rất sớm, góp phần vào việc "định nghĩa" thể loại game bắn súng góc nhìn người thứ nhất dưới thời Id Software cũng như đặt những viên gạch đầu tiên giúp FPS có thể phát triển được như ngày nay.

Và mới đây, Besthesda đã bất ngờ công bố phiên bản Wolfenstein tiếp theo mang tên Wolfenstein: The New Order, phát hành trên PS3, Xbox 360, PC cùng các hệ console next-gen vào quý IV năm 2013. Wolfenstein: The New Order sẽ lấy bối cảnh vào năm 1960 với giả định rằng không phải quân Đồng Minh mà phát xít Đức đã giành chiến thắng trong Thế Chiến thứ 2. Người chơi sẽ tiếp tục vào vai B.J. Blazkowics - chàng lính Mỹ quen thuộc của series Wolfenstein khi anh được giao trọng trách tổ chức một cuộc phản công để ********** thế giới khỏi ách thống trị của phát xít Đức.

Cuộc phản công này sẽ diễn ra tại châu Âu và người chơi sẽ phải đột nhập vào các thành trì của quân phát xít, chiến đấu với nhiều loại đơn vị quân khác nhau. Đồng thời, gamer cũng sẽ được giao nhiệm vụ kiểm soát món "siêu vũ khí" mà quân phát xít đang sử dụng để làm bá chủ thế giới.

Wolfenstein: The New Order hiện đang được phát triển tại MachineGames - studio trực thuộc Zenimax (công ty mẹ của Bethesda). MachineGames được sáng lập vào năm 2009 bởi cha đẻ của Starbreeze Studios, nơi làm ra loạt game Chronicles of Riddick, và được Zenimax thâu tóm vào năm 2010. Phiên bản gần đây nhất của series được phát hành là Wolfenstein (2009) cũng đạt được điểm số khá cao, chúng ta hãy cùng chờ xem MachineGames Studio và Bethesda sẽ mang đến những điều mới mẻ gì cho series game này.
