Christmas Giving holiday wishes

“Have a lovely / great / wonderful Christmas!”
“Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!”
“Happy Christmas!”
“Merry Christmas!”
You can also ask about people’s plans:
“Have you got any plans for Christmas?”
“Are you going away over Christmas?”
“What are you up to over Christmas?”
“Are you doing anything special over the New Year?”
You must be registered for see medias

Getting a Christmas tree
Many families put a decorated Christmas tree in their homes. “Real” trees are small fir trees,
but people also have fake trees. Decorations include “fairy lights” (a string of lights that go
around the branches of the tree), “baubles” (coloured glass balls that hang on the branches),
“tinsel” (red or gold decorations) and at the top of the tree, an angel, star or fairy. People also
hang small chocolates on the tree and sometimes spray it with fake snow.
“Are you getting a Christmas tree this year?”
“Have you decorated your tree yet?”

Other traditional decorations
Some people also decorate the outside of their houses with lights and Christmas motifs, while
others put decorations in their gardens. Inside houses, some people put up Christmas cards or
streamers (long paper decorations). Religious families might have nativity scenes in their
houses.
Holly and mistletoe are two plants that you can find in people’s homes at this time of year.
Holly is dark green with sharp leaves, while mistletoe (pronounced “missel-toe”) has red
berries. (Traditionally you kiss the person you love under a mistletoe branch!)

Shopping and presents

Many people save up all year so they can buy gifts for family and friends, take their family to a
special event (like a concert, musical, the ballet, a theme park, etc) and to have a special meal.
People also invite their friends over for meals or drinks.

Buying presents
Do you go shopping alone or with a friend? It can be easier to go with someone you know well,
so that you can get a second opinion! You aren't expected to buy gifts for everyone in your
school or company, but we often buy something small (under a certain limit). In some offices,
there is a “Secret Santa” when you buy a present for someone anonymously.

When you go shopping with a friend: Đi mua quà cùng bạn bè
“Do you think X will like this?”
“I'm not sure about this for X. What do you think?”
“X wants … (a sweatshirt / a video game, etc) for Christmas. Do you think he / she will like this
one?”
“I don't have a clue what to get X. Any ideas?”
“X is so difficult to buy for.”

Giving your present Khi Tặng quà cho ai đó
When you give someone a present, they will generally open it in front of you. You can say:
“This is for you.”
“I thought you might like this for Christmas …”
“It's only small, but I hope you like it.”
“I wasn't sure what to get you but I hope you like it.”
(”If you don't like it, you can always change it.”)

What to say when you receive a present Thank khi bạn nhận được quà
“Thank you so much! It's lovely / fantastic / wonderful.”
“It's something I've always wanted!”
“It's just what I've always wanted!”
“You shouldn't have!”
“How did you guess! It's just perfect, thank you so much!”
If you don't like something
“Thank you so much!”
“How kind of you!”
“It's lovely, thank you!”
If you use a present tag, you can write a message on it:
Happy Christmas!
Best wishes / Love from
